Working Owner

For an association health plan, a working owner is any person who has an ownership right of any nature in a business, whether incorporated or unincorporated, including self-employed individuals. In order to be eligible for an association’s health insurance, a working owner must satisfy conditions regarding hours worked or earnings as well as belong to the professional or geographic commonality of interest that defines the association.
